Logitech K380s keyboard review: Compact design meets versatility
After trying out several keyboards over the years, I finally landed on the Logitech K380s. Here’s what drew me in, and how it holds up after long-term use.
First impressions: looks, size & price
Let’s start with the basics. If you’ve been eyeing this keyboard, you might be curious about how it looks and feels right out of the box.
The Logitech K380s, also known as the Pebble Keys 2 K380s, is super compact and lightweight – measuring 279 x 124 x 16 mm and weighing around 415 grams (with batteries). It’s easy to toss into a bag and take to a café or a co-working space.
I went with the Tonal Rose version, but it also comes in Graphite and White. All the colors have a soft, modern feel that blends easily into most workspaces. Price-wise, it’s usually around $39.99. Not the cheapest keyboard out there, but considering what you get, it’s pretty fair.
What I love about it
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let me share what I actually love about using this keyboard every day.
Multi-device switching made easy
One of the biggest game changers for me is the ability to connect to three devices at once. I regularly switch between my laptop, iPad, and phone during the day, and all I have to do is press F1, F2, or F3. It’s quick, seamless, and saves me so much time.
Long-lasting battery
Battery life is another win. I haven’t had to change the batteries once over the past year, and that’s with nearly daily use. Logitech says it can last up to 3 years with two AAA batteries—and so far, I believe them.
Smooth, quiet typing
Typing on the K380s is quieter than most keyboards I’ve tried. It’s got a low-profile design and scissor-switch keys that are gentle on the fingers. Perfect for late-night writing sessions or working in shared spaces.
Customizable shortcuts
This is more of a bonus, but with the Logi Options+ software, you can customize the function keys to open apps, control media, or even paste emojis. I’ve set mine up to launch Notion and Spotify, small touches that make my workflow smoother.
Works with almost everything
Whether you’re on Windows, macOS, iPadOS, Android, or even ChromeOS, this keyboard connects effortlessly. It’s really handy if you’re someone who uses a mix of devices, like I do. \
With iPad in particular, it pairs smoothly via Bluetooth – no need for a USB dongle or any extra accessories. Just turn it on, connect once, and you’re good to go.
Downsides to keep in mind
But of course, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Here are some things I wish I had known before buying.
Round keys take getting used to
The circular keycaps look cute, but they’re not for everyone. I’ll admit, it took me a week or two to stop hitting the wrong letters. Once I adjusted, it was fine—but it might be annoying at first.
No backlighting
If you work in the dark often, the lack of backlighting could be a dealbreaker. I usually type in a well-lit room, so it hasn’t affected me much, but I still think it’s something Logitech should’ve included.
Fixed angle, no feet
The keyboard lies flat and doesn’t have kickstand feet. Personally, I’m okay with this – less strain on my wrists – but if you like a raised angle, you might need to DIY a solution.
Runs on AAA batteries
While the battery life is great, I do wish it came with a rechargeable battery. I prefer not having to deal with disposables, though in practice I haven’t had to worry about it yet.
Tips from my own experience
Here are some lessons I’ve learned after using the K380s consistently for more than a year.
Use it regularly: Even when I’m not actively working, I try to use the keyboard every few days. If it sits unused too long, it sometimes needs a reset to reconnect. I actually damaged a previous Logitech Bluetooth keyboard by leaving it untouched for months – the battery leaked and ruined the internals. Since then, I’ve made it a habit to keep my keyboards active, even just by typing a few random lines now and then.
Power it off: There’s a small switch on the side. I make sure to turn it off at night to save battery and avoid any issues with power drainage.
Watch the battery orientation: The one time my keyboard didn’t turn on, it turned out I had inserted the batteries incorrectly. Double-check the polarity if this happens to you!
Pairing tip: On some devices, you’ll be asked to enter a PIN using the K380s. Just follow the on-screen prompt and type the numbers on the keyboard itself, then press Enter.
Final Thoughts: Should You Buy It?
At the end of the day, would I still recommend this keyboard? Honestly, yes – but with a few caveats.
After more than a year, the Logitech K380s is still my daily go-to. It’s stylish, portable, and compatible with everything I use. But I also have to admit I’ve had a few moments of regret. I wish the keys were square. I wish it had backlighting. And sometimes I wonder if I should’ve gone for something with a more premium feel.
Still, for under $40, it’s hard to beat. If you’re looking for a simple, solid keyboard that travels well and doesn’t break the bank, the K380s is a great pick. Just make sure you’re okay with its quirks before hitting that “Buy” button.
